Method statement
Safe sequence of work
Pre-start review
Jordan Lee Waller and Charlie Miller review the construction-phase plan, latest drawings/specification, structural information, asbestos information, service drawings, COSHH assessments and subcontractor RAMS. Confirm permits, access equipment and any temporary works before authorising the task.
Daily control
All personnel enter by the side gates, sign in at the site office, complete the site induction and attend the daily briefing. Check the named fire marshal, work area, weather, barriers, lighting, emergency routes and changing interfaces. No lone working.
Segregate and prepare
Close and secure the work zone from Motorpoint staff and the public. Protect retained surfaces, establish pedestrian and delivery routes, position signs and barriers, and maintain emergency access. Stop if the segregation cannot be maintained.
Services and existing fabric
Confirm the intended work is non-structural. Locate services and arrange isolation, lock-off and proof of dead by a competent person. Do not disturb unknown materials. Any suspected asbestos, unexpected service or unstable element triggers an immediate stop-work and escalation.
Deliver and store
Pre-book deliveries. A trained banksman controls unavoidable reversing and unloading. Store boards, blocks, sanitaryware and fixings securely inside the compound, protected from weather, without overloading surfaces or obstructing access.
Set out and construct
Set out from approved drawings. Reinstate the wall or partition in controlled stages using the specified system and manufacturer instructions. Maintain stability at every stage; install tracks, studs, blocks, boards, bracing and fixings to the approved design. Do not leave an incomplete wall unsafe or unsupported.
Cut, drill and fix
Use a designated cutting area and the least dusty method. Fit guards and extraction or water suppression before starting. Only trained operators use abrasive wheels; goggles are mandatory. Control noise, vibration, sparks, dust and access to the zone.
Toilet-block fit-out
Coordinate framing, boarding, plumbing, electrical work, sanitaryware, sealants and finishes so trades do not create risks for one another. Plumbing and electrical connections, testing and commissioning are undertaken only by competent contractors under their own task controls and confirmed isolations.
Inspect and hand over
Remove waste as work progresses, clean with dust-safe methods and make incomplete work secure at every break and shift end. Charlie Miller completes quality and safety checks; defects, changed conditions or incomplete controls are corrected before handover or reopening the area.

People, PPE and emergency arrangements
Minimum and task PPE
- Safety boots and yellow high-visibility vest.
- Hard hat where overhead work creates a falling-object risk.
- Suitable gloves and task-specific eye/hearing protection.
- Goggles for abrasive wheels; RPE only as specified, face-fit tested and supported by clean-shaven policy where tight fitting.
Work controls
- No lone working. Follow approved permits and manufacturer instructions.
- Phones only during designated breaks in the welfare or break area; emergency calls only after stopping and moving safe.
- No radios, earphones or headphones. No photography or social-media posting.
- Zero tolerance for alcohol, non-prescribed drugs or working while impaired.
Emergency
- Raise the fire alarm at the nearest break-glass point and leave by the nearest safe exit.
- Assemble in the front car park and report to the fire marshal named on the current shift fire board.
- First-aid point: site office. Named first aiders: Charlie Miller, Jordan Waller and Lee Moore.
- For serious emergencies call 999 and give the full Motorpoint Widnes address. Keep emergency access clear at all times.
